RESIDENTS around Gloucestershire are being warned to be on the alert after a number of suspicious characters claiming to be selling fish were seen around Winchcombe.
A white van with an air conditioning unit on the roof with signage: DT Shanks Quality Fresh Fish was operating in Greet on July 2. Two or three 'salesmen' wearing white coats were going door to door enquiring if anyone wished to buy fish
A resident noticed that the males were looking round her car. One male in his twenties and the other male, who appeared older, were both wearing white coats. The caller later notice white chalk on her wall.
White chalk on walls is regarded as a 'sign' used by some to identify a property as a potential target for burglars or thieves.
Police suspect the men may have been on reconnaissance and ask anyone who sees similar suspicious activity to ring 101 as soon as possible.
