A NEW website has been launched for people in the Cotswolds who want more information on how they can help with the Syrian refugee crisis.

The Cotswold District Council-run site offers information on a range of charities and organisations which are currently appealing for support and donations as part of their work helping migrants fleeing the country.

It also contains advice on how people can help directly, including offering accommodation.

The council’s cabinet member for health, environment and communities Cllr Sue Coakley welcomed the new website

“We have received a number of calls asking how people can help the plight of Syrian and other refugees by donating, money, goods or providing housing,” she said.

By pulling together the various strands of information we have received, we have established a web page which should hopefully point residents in the right direction.”

Although Prime Minister David Cameron announced last month the UK would house 20,000 Syrian refugees by 2020, it is not yet clear how this promise will be fulfilled and where in the country they will live.

The website can be found at cotswold.gov.uk/residents/communities/support-for-refugees.
