EIGHTEEN months of tireless fundraising by committed Dormer House School pupils and parents, finally paid off when local farmer and BBC Countryfile presenter, Adam Henson, formally opened the White Roses Learning Lab in front of a large and excited audience.

The learning lab will house the school library in addition to a dedicated science room.

Dormer House, in Moreton, purchased the White Roses building, which lies adjacent to the current site. Once the purchase had been finalised, it was all systems go to raise the finances required to transform the property into a fantastic learning environment for pupils across the school. The determined efforts of the school’s fund raising committee, led by parent trustee, Justine Berry, have ensured that the learning lab dream became a reality.

Various projects were undertaken by pupils and parents, past and present, including busking in a local hotel, ice skating courtesy of Fosseway Garden Centre, half marathons, bake sales at the Bugatti Trust, jewellery making, car boot sales and many more.

Everybody who participated in the project was awarded a White Roses badge, which they proudly wore at the opening ceremony. Mr Henson, who runs Cotswold Farm Park, was extremely interested in the school’s commitment to teaching science and environmental studies. When opening the learning lab, he spoke of how fortunate the pupils are to have such a first class, dedicated facility.

Deputy Head Teacher, Andrew Trafford, said; “Having a room specifically for science will really allow us to enhance the teaching and learning of the subject. The children love science here and we have planned to branch out into some new, exciting areas to inspire them. We have to thank the tireless efforts of the fundraisers who have been magnificent.”
