FREE dog microchipping has been carried out in the South Warwickshire area following a joint promotion run by South Warwickshire Police and Stratford District Council.

The first 20 dog owners to make an appointment to have their pet microchipped had the procedure carried out free of charge.

From April 6 it will be law to have your dog microchipped with fines of up to £500 for non-compliance.

A number of other venues have been booked to offer the service free and will be open between 10.30am and 1.30pm. They are February 8, Graham Adam Centre, Southam; February 10, Memorial Hall, Welford; February 16, Crawford Memorial Hall, Bidford; February 17, Methodist Church, Bidford; February 19, St Andrew's Centre, Shottery; and February 23, Jubilee Centre, Alcester. Subsequent appointments will be charged at £5 plus VAT per dog.

Booking is essential by calling the council on 017989 267575.
