PERSHORE gained local bragging rights with a 4-0 home win over Evesham and Badsey in Worcestershire Women’s League Division One.

In a strong start from the hosts, hard work and accurate passing through midfield saw Kate Adams take the ball around the keeper to open the scoring.

They intercepted and broke fast to net again through Adams five minutes later.

Dani Cook, Nicki Sheppard and Heidi Deacon impressed in midfield, with Deacon’s cross finished off by Claire Chadwick for a third goal.

Second-from-bottom Evesham secured short corners but were denied by keeper Cat Pinney. Another fine cross from Emma Gardner was met by Zoe Nicholson to complete the scoring.

The next day, mid-table Pershore lost 4-3 at Harborne fourths, with Chadwick (2) and Sheppard scoring.

Meanwhile, bottom-of-the-table Bretforton lost 3-0 at leaders Team Bath Buccaneers seconds in West Clubs Women’s League Premier Division ‘2A’.

Deb Slatter and Sarah Hall returned from injury to boost Bret, who defended well to keep the score at 0-0, with Tess Lewinton and Julie Hall impressing in new positions.

In the second-half, Bath tried a new short-corner routine, which led to two strikes, giving keeper Vicky Watkins no chance.

Bret’s midfield kept pushing on, with defender Heather Carr voted player-of-the-match, but Bath scored again on the stroke of half-time. The seconds beat Ross-on-Wye 1-0 in Severn Division Two but felt they should have scored more goals.

Lucy Cole just failed to convert Sophie Hamilton’s pass, and Ness Dufty fired just wide from a short corner.

Andrea Cole moved up front to create further problems, and player-of-the-match Natalie Benwell scored the only goal from Dufty’s cross.

Lesley MacKinnon, Holly Hutchison and Jemima Hutchison defended solidly as Bret moved up to fourth.
