WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids’ road to Lord’s in the Royal London One-Day Cup begins with a long trip to Durham on Monday (10.30am).

The County open their Group ‘A’ campaign at the Emirates ICG before hosting Yorkshire on Thursday (10.30am) and visiting Somerset at Taunton on Friday (10.30am).

County skipper Daryl Mitchell hopes his side can learn from last season’s disappointing challenge when they lost half their games to finish seventh out of nine in the pool.

“It’s the start of a new competition and we are keen to improve on what was a disappointing campaign in the competition last season,” said Mitchell.

“We can take a lot of confidence from our T20 campaign, which we have played pretty well in, and hopefully we can translate that form into the 50-over version.”

He added: “There’s more of a building phase when you are batting in 50-over cricket compared to T20.

“I think 50 overs is a long time to bat and you have to keep your concentration in the field for three hours.”

Mitchell is excited about the competition, particularly after England showed attacking flair in the explosive one-day series against New Zealland earlier this summer.

“It will be interesting to see how each county approaches the competition,” he added.

“We all saw how England attacked with the bat and played positively in their series against New Zealand. It will be interesting to see how the different counties approach things.
