THE Vale Golf Club’s players contested the Millward Rosebowl in a better-ball bogey and par competition.

Mark and Shona Rollins took the spoils with a score of +8 ahead of Clive and Debbie Minett (+5) and Rob and Chris Millward (+3).

Forty-eight The Vale seniors turned out in wet weather to play a white tee medal in tricky conditions with a standard scratch of 76.

The Division One winner was Richard Fletcher (11 handicap, 70 nett) followed by Gerry Clayton (9-73) and Clive Gilbert (14-78).

Michael Lewis (16-76) took Division Two in front of Ian Geden (18-77) and David Webb (16-78).

Michael Spittle (22-82) topped Division Three followed by Larry Taylor (22-85) and Bill Ellis (26-89).

Nearest the pin was Tony Townsend on the fifth hole.

The winner of the annual Jim Rushworth Trophy, a white tee medal knockout, was David Millard, who beat Juan Mendez in the final.

The Autumn Trophy went to Fletcher (gross 81 net 69) ahead of Clayton (81-71) and Lewis (87-71).

Meanwhile, Paul Callaghan secured his first board competition in Evesham’s Bill Onion Trophy at Craycombe Links on a fine autumn day.

A field of 61 golfers competed for the trophy and September medal.

Callaghan claimed both by topping Division One with 78 gross, 69 nett ahead of captain John Machin (72 nett), while Steve Wood (73) pipped Nick Webb (73) on count-back for third spot.

Bill Kite won Division Two with 69 followed by Kevin Stewart (71), John Jones (74) and club secretary Fraser Williamson (75).

Evesham’s annual father and son open greensome saw 88 players representing 25 clubs from across the country in the rare competition.

Stuart Ridley completed a hat-trick after winning with father Paul and son Scott over the last 14 years.

This time, he was partnered by his other son Lewis to triumph with 45 points ahead of Mark and Connor Thomas (42) from Droitwich and Kings Norton respectively and Rose Hill’s Alan and Kevin Cornfield (41).

Evesham ladies played the September Trophy, an individual stableford for those with a handicap of 30 or less.

Mel Evans won with 35 points in front of Marlene Billings (33). A friendly competition for higher handicaps went to Alison Scott (26) ahead of Angela Budden (23).

Two Broadway ladies achieved success in the county-run Lady Marling Bronze and Silver Cups.

Linda Carruthers’ 71 nett earned the Scratch Cup for best gross of 76 in the Silver Division.

The Challenge Cup winner for best nett of 71 on count-back was Rachel Paul from The Bristol with Broadway player Chris Moulder’s 80 securing the Bronze Cup. 

Carruthers won the ladies’ stableford with 40 points followed by Sheila Lawson (33) and Lin Andrew (31).

Thirty-eight Broadway men turned out for the King B Trophy as Bernard Donoghue triumphed with 40 points.
