WORCESTER Swimming Club’s Tazmin Pugh flew to compete in USA and Belgium over two busy weekends.

Selected for Great Britain for the second time, the 16-year-old faced her stiffest test yet in Texas, USA, in the Austin leg of the Arena Pro Swim Grand Prix Series.

After meeting swimming legend Michael Phelps, the Pershore teenager then headed over to Antwerp in Belgium for the Flanders Cup.

Pugh went to the USA led by her Ellesmere College Titans head coach Alan Bircher and finished fifth in the 200-metre butterfly B final for 13th overall and fourth in the 16 and under age category.

She was sixth in the 200m backstroke final, as well as 22nd overall and fifth in her age group.

Pugh did not make any of the 100m butterfly finals.

She was joined in Belgium by Olympians James Guy, Liam Tancock and Fran Halsall.

In the 50m butterfly, Pugh did 28.81 seconds for third among the 16 and under swimmers.

The 200m butterfly saw her qualify for the A final in two minutes 17.91 seconds and eventually manage fifth as top of her age group.

Pugh saved possibly her best performance for her last event in the 100m butterfly when qualifying for the A finals as first reserve and then taking the place of Halsall, who withdrew.

She beat her heats time by 1.5 seconds to touch in 1.01.07 and climbed to fifth, as fastest in her age group.
