I HAVE the following comment to make regarding the Sainsbury’s development being proposed just outside Moreton.

It is absolutely amazing after the recent scare that a body like Sainsbury’s believe they can provide good value produce for the local community.

Surely the whole point was that due to supermarkets buying in cheap and then selling on at a profit, at what they call good value, has caused the food chain to become a lottery!

I for one am not happy to buy meat from any supermarket (unless it is locally sourced) not only because of the health risks involved but because it will again offer produce to supermarkets for only one reason – to save money and not for the good of the shopper.

Surely it is more than obvious that having an excellent supermarket, Budgens, which provides local produce and well sourced meat, from the local farm, the value of which is incredible and could have the potential of having to close its doors due to this new proposal.

Not only does it provide excellent produce, consistent staff, it is still very personable and gets totally involved in the community spirit. Let us not forget we are very well provided for as far as supermarkets go and the choice is there so it is obvious that Sainsbury are more about presence than helping the community.

We also have a Tesco within a short drive, as well as a Tesco convenient store in the middle of Moreton. We now have a Waitrose which is also accessible should one wish to shop there.

Sainsbury’s has ruined some of the smaller towns in London, one good example is Barnes, where they have two shops within walking distance of each other, totally unnecessary.

We cannot let Sainsbury’s ruin the rural communities as they have done in more urban areas.

I am only hoping that our voice will be heard and this is not going to be another worthless and unnecessary project which will in turn ruin Moretonin- Marsh’s landscape and structure.
