HAVING read the article about the ATM in Chipping Campden in this week’s Cotswold Journal, I am greatly relieved that proposals have been put forward for the retention of a cash machine in the town.

At a time when local retailers are struggling to stay open and are actively doing everything they can to boost trade, to lose the cash machine would be a significant blow.

The fact that there is frequently a queue at the ATM (quite often made up of a number of visitors to the town) demonstrates its need.

On the few occasions when the cash machine has been out of order, frustrated visitors can always be heard asking locals where they can get cash – this is not good for the town.

Yes, there is post office – but this is of no benefit after 5.30pm or at weekends when the town has most of its visitors.

So please let’s do everything possible to keep this much-needed 21st century service available.
