A cash prize of £250 awaits a Cotswolds photographer who catches the best festive snap.

To capture the spirit of the yuletide in the picturesque Cotswolds, retirement home developers, McCarthy Stone has announced a photo competition for budding and amateur photographers alike.

The Christmas-themed contest titled 'Snow Place like the Cotswolds' seeks to spotlight the charm of the Cotswolds during the holiday season.

Organisers are encouraging budding photographers to capture anything from snowy landscapes, Christmas carols, cosy fires, to the region's villages decorated with lights.

McCarthy Stone is the name behind three retirement communities in the area, namely Watson Place in Chipping Norton, Hawkesbury Place in Stow-on-the-Wold and Keatley Place in Moreton-in-Marsh.

Laura Pittaway, marketing manager at McCarthy Stone, painted a vivid picture, saying: "Frosty mornings are here and the smell of hot chocolate and cinnamon in the air, so now is the perfect opportunity to capture some festive cheer and show all the reasons why there is no better place to be than the Cotswolds at this wonderful time of year."

Aside from rewarding one photographers with £250, the organisers will make an equal donation to the winner’s charity of choice.

There will be a panel of homeowners from McCarthy Stone and their staff to judge each entry.

Selected photos will then be put up for display at the three mentioned retirement communities throughout the festive period for residents, visitors and family members to view.

All entries, limited to a maximum of five photos per participant which must be no more than three years old, need to be emailed to mccarthyandstone@mccann.com by Friday, December 1.

The subject must be 'Snow Place like the Cotswolds’, and each photo should be submitted with your full name, a relevant title and location of where it was taken.

The competition is open to all ages, with the provision that anyone under the age of 16 must seek adult permission.

Similarly, entrants are urged to obtain approval from anyone featured in the submitted pictures.
