JASON Donovan is set to play a Worcestershire music festival next year.

The Aussie pop star will be performing at Sunshine Festival in Upton upon Severn next August.

He’ll be playing the festival’s main stage on Sunday, August 25.

Donovan’s music career started in 1988 when he left Neighbours, signed a record deal with Mushroom Records in Australia and released his first single Nothing Can Divide Us.

Like former neighbours co-star Kylie Minogue, Donovan’s songs were written and produced by the production team of Stock Aitken Waterman. The single reached number five in the UK.

Donovan then enjoyed a series of UK number ones with Especially for You, which was a duet with Minogue, Too Many Broken Hearts and Sealed with a Kiss.

He embarked on a world tour in 1990 then starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, kicking off a long and successful stage career.

The show also brought him his third solo UK number one single, Any Dream Will Do.

In recent years he has competed in TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing on Ice, presented radio shows on Heart and even returned to Neighbours for a cameo appearance.

Also confirmed for next year’s Sunshine Festival are The Wurzels and The Boomtown Rats, who will both be appearing on the main stage on Saturday, August 24, and Altered Images who will be playing the Sunday.

Among the acts confirmed for the Westons Stage are Black Lace and Elvis impersonator Emilo Santoro.

For 2024, which will be the festival’s 15th year, organisers are promising a festival that’s bigger and better than ever.

This includes having a bar closer to the main stage and new luxury camping toilets and showers.

The festival also features arena entertainment, variety acts and comedy, as well as live music.

Confirmed for 2024 is Lee Lard, who is described as the UK’s number one Peter Kay tribute act.
