Famous football icon David Beckham said he was "gutted" after Storm Henk caused damage to his £12m Oxfordshire mansion.

David and his wife Victoria bought the country retreat in Great Tew near Chipping Norton for a reported £6.15m in December 2016.

Storm Henk has battered the county and the mansion, close to private members' club Soho Farmhouse.

After a large tree was uprooted the former footballer, who is 48, posted a photo on his Instagram page, saying: "Could have been worse. Still gutted."

He also posted the crying emoji.

The property has a sauna, plunge pool, football pitch, gym, swimming pool and £50,000 BBQ tent in the grounds for entertaining.

The mansion is featured in the four-part Netflix series called Beckham which follows the former Manchester United player’s career and gives insight into his married life.

The mansion also has a huge lake and grounds and one scene in the documentary shows Mr Beckham sitting at his garden table looking back at the home.

Speaking to the camera, the 48-year-old said: "I wanted a place where we could escape.

"As soon as I get into the countryside I normally get into my whole country getup."
