ISSUES surrounding the emergency road works on a busy roundabout in Cirencester were raised to The Cotswolds MP on Friday.

Residents shared their concerns about the closure of a section of the Kingsmeadow Roundabout in Cirencester to Cotswolds MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown at his most recent flood meeting on Friday, April 26.

Frequent flooding on the roundabout has damaged the road's surface overtime so Gloucestershire County Council decided close of part of it in March to start an excavation to establish the cause.

This unpopular closure causes daily traffic chaos which has left commuters and school buses trapped in lengthy queues during rush hour.

GCC recently revealed that the leak is being caused by natural ground water and that work to resolve this issue would re-start on Monday, May 6.

However, the Cotswolds MP is demanding more urgent action and has proposed a partial re-opening during the May bank holiday weekend to prevent exacerbating congestion.

Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said: “I accept that this is a complex problem and while I am awaiting the latest report, it appears that Gloucestershire Highways have made very little progress since the roundabout was partially closed at the beginning of March.

"I am now appealing to Gloucestershire Highways to urgently come up with a solution and if it cannot be achieved in the time available, the hole should be filled in temporarily and the roundabout opened for the May bank holiday.

“Any further closures should be for as limited time as is possible, to do the necessary repairs."
