JOEL Masters wrote his name into the history books by setting a new 60m sprint record at the English Championships last weekend.
Masters, 16 from Chipping Camden in the Cotswolds, registered a time of 6.73 seconds, beating a championship record set by Olympic gold medallist Mark Lewis Francis back in 1999. It is also the fastest 60m sprint time of any athlete this year in the world.
It was also the fastest 60m time ever ran by a British athlete on home soil, second only to Lewis Francis' record ran in France.
Masters has enjoyed a terrific couple of months. Over the winter, he ran 60m in a world lead time of 6.84 in London Lee Valley.
An American athlete equalled his time before Masters set another new record when winning at the Midland Championships with a time of 6.81, which also put him third on the all-time Great Britain U17 list.
