Paddy McGuinness has said he's "really excited" as he gets set to fill in for Rylan Clark on BBC Radio 2 in February.

The former Top Gear presenter will take over the 3pm to 6pm slot on Saturdays on BBC Radio 2, usually hosted by Clark, for four weeks beginning on February 10.

Along with great music and guests, the show will still feature most of its usual segments with McGuinness at the helm including the weekly quiz 'Couch Potatoes' and 'Winning at Life'.

Paddy McGuinness to bring an "endless supply of Dad jokes" to BBC Radio 2 role

McGuinness, 50, is no stranger to BBC Radio 2 having previously stepped in to host the quiz 'Ten to the Top' on Vernon Kay’s mid-morning show in November while the host was running an ultra marathon for Children In Need.

The former Top Gear co-host said he was "really excited" to get another stint on air with BBC Radio 2 and gave fans an insight as to what they can expect when he takes over from Clark.

McGuinness said: “I’m really excited to be taking over the reins of Rylan’s show and keeping his seat warm for four weeks.

“I can’t wait to bring the fun, and an endless supply of dad jokes, to Radio 2 every Saturday.”

Head of BBC Radio 2 Helen Thomas said it was great to have McGuinness back on Radio 2.

She added: "Paddy did a great job presenting Ten To The Top for Vernon Kay whilst he took on his Ultra Ultramarathon Challenge for BBC Children In Need last year.

“He was warmly welcomed by the listeners so it’s wonderful to welcome him back to Radio 2 to sit in for Rylan on Saturday afternoons for four weeks.”

Clark, 35, has been in charge of the Saturday afternoon time slot on BBC Radio 2 since 2019 when he took over from Zoe Ball when she moved to present the station’s breakfast show.

McGuiness is no stranger to presenting roles having helmed a number of shows throughout his career including Take Me Out and music game show I Can See Your Voice.

More recently he was the co-host of Top Gear with Chris Harris and former England Cricket captain Andrew Flintoff before the latter was involved in a serious accident which has resulted in the show being rested for the "foreseeable future" by the BBC.

He took over from Sue Barker as host of A Question Of Sport in 2021 until the show was axed last year.

He was also part of Channel 4's Don't Look Down for Stand up to Cancer in 2023 alongside the likes of Pussycat Dolls singer and presenter Kimberly Wyatt and Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard.

You can hear Paddy McGuiness on BBC Radio 2 from Saturday, February 10 at 3pm.
